Under the auspices of the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur the 81st Anniversary of Flag Hoisting 2025 will be held at the INA Martyrs’ Memorial Complex, Moirang, on 14th April, 2025 in a befitting manner to commemorate the plantation of the Tri-Colour flag by Col. Saukat Ali Malik, Commander of the Bahadur Group (Intelligence Wing of the INA) to mark the sacred soil of India to have been liberated first from British colonial rule.
Eighty years ago Shri M. Koireng Singh (Ex-Chief Minister, Manipur) led local leaders of Moirang and went to Tronglaobivillage, 5 km away from Moirang, to meet Indo-Japanese forces in the morning of 14th April 1944 and came back in the evening with Col. Malik, Capt. Ito of Japanese army and other Indo-Japanese soldiers. Before a gathering of some 50/60 local people the Tri-Colour flag was ceremonially planted at Moirang, where the kings of Moirang (Kingdom) were coronated in succession.
This historic event is observed every year by the Department as one of the three calendar events. Shri Ajay Kumar Valla, the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, will grace the anniversary function as the Chief Guest. A website of the INA War Museum cum Library, Moirang, is also being launched under the aegis of the Department of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur by the Governor.
Y. Modhu Singh, Retd. Associate Professor will talk on the plantation of Tri-Colour flag at Moirang and Port Blair in the freedom struggle of India.
57th Mt. Division taking a major share in the observance a Bike Rally is also being arranged from Peace Memorial, MaibramLotpaChing (Red Hill) to INA Martyrs’ Memorial Complex, Moirang. A strong team of Akhil Bharatiya Durva Sainik Seva Parishad will also attend this ‘Moirang Utsav.
